Greta Gerwig Responds to the Idea of Directing a James Bond Film in the Future

Total Film Podcast recently invited director Greta Gerwig to speak about her latest film Barbie and the discussion soon led to James Bond when speaking of her future projects.
When directly asked about helming a Bond film Gerwig reacted by saying “oh my god no… I mean you never know. I really like Barbara Broccoli.” The question took her by surprise as she currently has her mind focused on making the two Narnia movies for Netflix. You can listen to the podcast on Spotify and skip to 14:25.
Earlier during the podcast Gerwig explained her desire to become a filmmaker that gets to direct movies of different scales and genres. To be free of the constraints imposed by studios that have her direct one type of film. Gerwig had the following to say:
“I hope to make all different kinds of movies in the time that I [have] to make movies, which is a long time but it’s also limited. I want to do big things and small things and everywhere in-between. Having another big canvas is exciting and also daunting.”
Other than her two projects set in the Narnia universe, Greta Gerwig currently has nothing else on her slate. A potential Barbie sequel has yet to be announced and it seems there are no deals in place either. She remained coy when asked about this on the podcast by only saying that “anything is possible.” This leaves the door open for Bond 26 albeit by a narrow margin.
