In an exclusive interview with SlashFilm (aka /Film) actor David Dastmalchian opened up about his strong desire to play the villain in a future James Bond film.
The actor who’s best known for his roles in The Dark Knight and The Suicide Squad told SlashFilm that he’s waiting to have a conversation with EON as he would “love to do it.” He went on to say that “there's no one to push Bond to the limits of their capabilities the way that I could.”
The full quote can be read here:
“It begins right now. So whoever is reading this, take it as a sign. You were meant to be reading this line at this moment as you're thinking about the future of what you guys are doing with the franchise. Trust me when I say that I can bring something to an enemy of 007, whether he or she or they be played in a way that no one has ever seen Bond brought to life before, which is of course the way that you guys always do it. I think there's no one to push Bond to the limits of their capabilities the way that I could, and I would love to do it. So there's my pitch to them. I can't wait for them to read this. And then I will owe you when or if I ever get that role, I guess 10%.”
For context the actor first admitted he would like to play a Bond villain back in July 2021. The desire was one of three original goals he had when moving to LA, alongside working with David Lynch and also the Muppets.
Dastmalchian eventually got his wish to work with David Lynch in Twin Peaks all thanks to the actor’s unwavering ambition. With his focus now set to the James Bond franchise he is determined more than ever to manifest the role for himself – even using the interview as a pitch.
It’s worth noting that Dastmalchian has a history of collaborating with director Christopher Nolan who is a fan favourite for Bond 26. He starred in some of Nolan’s most famous works including The Dark Knight and Oppenheimer, which were both hits with critics and at the box office. Nolan prefers to work with the same talent where he can, so it‘s reasonable to assume that if he’s hired to direct Bond 26 then Dastmalchian might be able to have his dream come true.
