Actor Ben Whishaw Thinks He’s Done Playing Q

Actor Ben Whishaw spoke with Radio Times Magazine about his personal life and filmography, leading to questions about the future of the James Bond franchise and his own place within it.
Whishaw memorably played the Quartermaster “Q” in three consecutive Bond films, namely Skyfall, SPECTRE and No Time To Die. His portrayal even had its own side-story with the Sphynx cats creating a through-line between films.
When specifically asked about how the franchise can move forward Whishaw shifted the focus to his character saying that he “was only contracted to do three films, and they’re done.” This would seem to confirm the expectation that the producers will head in a completely different direction once they’ve cast the next James Bond actor.
Whishaw continued: “How many films have they made – 25 or something? I think [the producers] have to keep renewing it if they want to keep going!" If this is to be the case then it would mean also leaving behind the rest of the MI6 team – Naomie Harris’ Eve Moneypenny, Rory Kinnear’s Tanner and Ralph Fiennes’ M.
This revelation won’t come as a complete surprise but it will leave many fans wanting more from these actors and in particular Whishaw who impressed fans with his younger, quirkier take on Q with a legacy that lasted just short of a decade.
